──So how old are you now?
安斉かれん：I turned 20 in august!
──Happy birthday! So you'll be coming of age next year. Are you going to do the ceremony?
安斉かれん：Definitely! I want to
──Where are you from by the way?
安斉かれん：From Fujisawa City in Kanagawa. Near the sea

──I see! Do you do any water sports then?
安斉かれん：Not really, I do like floating in these water balloon rings though.
──I see. So how did you get into music?
安斉かれん：When I was elementary school I was a fan of electronic music, and I've been into that every since. Around the time I entered middle school my dad too me to a Rolling Stones concert. That's how I got into rock as well. The backing band was fantastic!
──So you turned to singing then?
安斉かれん：I thought the voice was an instrument too, and after trying loads of things I began singing。
──Which other things did you do?
安斉かれん：I did japanese traditional Hayashi things
──I never expected that!
安斉かれん: Hahaha
──続いて、I would like to ask you about your music likes as well.
安斉かれん：I listen to Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez. I love powerful artists like that. I listen to a lot of western and japanese music.
──I see. Did you also start to write your own lyrics?
安斉かれん：I felt I should, since I was the one singing the songs. I started both around the same time
──Was there anything you found was important in doing that?
安斉かれん：I felt it was important to write my feelings down in real time, as I was feeling them. If I read my older lyrics I feel like I am reading my old diary. I didn't feel like I had to make anything look good, just write from the heart.
──That's quite real in that sense, isn't it! Do you also get outside inspiration from other people's stories?
安斉かれん：Yes, I write down loads of things, but often they don't have any real form yet. Oh, and also fictional things sometimes.

──Please tell us about your single.
安斉かれん：Generally I pick a melody after comparing a lot of material, but this was different. I listened to this tune and was so inspired. I wrote the lyrics in 5 minutes or so, that's how excited I was.
──That's fast!
安斉かれん：And I was on the train even!
──Crazy!
安斉かれん：I couldn't have written it anywhere else really.
──Do you ever just sit at your desk writing lyrics?
安斉かれん：Never! I can't! I have to be totally in the moment. I can't plan that.
──So lyrics just kind-of happen like that
安斉かれん：In every sense!
──When you're you write sad things, and when you're happy you write happy things. But you have to feel the emotion of that specific time. Is it like that?
安斉かれん：Yes, but I'm getting used to it now. Even just before going to sleep I would sometimes get my phone and write even though I am tired.
──Because you're in the moment?
安斉かれん：Absolutely
──Let's get back to the song. "life is a battlefield. I feel that sometimes" is what you sing, but the title of the song is just half of that. I want to ask about the meaning.

安斉かれん：When you're young you feel like you want to fight the world. But when you get older you might not fight as hard anymore. That's how I feel. Every morning I wake up fighting.
──Now that you're 20, have you fought with peole rather than with life as well?
安斉かれん：I am so different now than how I thought I would be. I don't know. I am fighting, I am struggling, but I don't know how and when I'll be an adult.
──I like that honest comment. I the lyrics you sing "the dream I am chasing I am walking towards alone". Can you explain how you can describe this in such nice words?
安斉かれん：Let's see. I'm getting to know more and more words because of books and movies. Maybe I used that to sound a bit poetic here
──So you write your feelings down, and the way you write them changes when you know more and more words.
安斉かれん：I thought the words I wrote down would never become really beautiful Japanese, but now I am trying to word things nicely as well.
── I see. You also sing that you think "do your best" is an awful thing and that "tenderness" is a scary word. I wonder how many people will hear their own feelings in that.
安斉かれん：These words give you stress if someone says them to you. But I say them to myself now too.
